There were two really innovative safety and emergency response products for shown off at the Shooting, Hunting, & Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) this year. The event took place in Las Vegas the week of Jan 16-19.
In ADS Inc.’s booth, a “Wound Cube” by Phokus Research Group was demonstrated. The wound cube will help medical students understand how to subdue bleeding. The wound cube is four inches and is made of non-toxic silicone which is semitransparent. It simulates tissue consistency and what it is like to treat a real gunshot wound. The cube has many wound channels which can be a good place to put a flashlight. It can also be used with a blood stimulant to make training emergency response crews even more realistic. The cube is not expensive, so students can save money without having to buy an expensive training aid.
Mustang Survival also showed off their new improved inflatable life preserver at this year’s SHOT show. They have been attempting to make the inflatable life preserver be lightweight and inconspicuousness. They have done just that. The SOF life preserver is just one pound and has the buoyancy of forty pounds. The inflation enclosure is made of ultra-lightweight membrane film which contributes to it being so light.
Mustang Survival partnered with ADS for five years to perfect the SOF life preserver. They also made a new programmable inflator with CM Hammar. The new programmable inflator can be programmed to generate inflation by depth, by time being in the water, or both. The SOF life preserver comes in three ways. The MD1500 has a programmable automatic inflator. The MD1501 has a HIT Hydrostatic inflator. The MD1502 has the CM Hammar inflator. Mustang Survival also made an appliqué which adheres to armor vests. The life preserver is perfect because a person can still get to their gear without hindrance. The world’s first life-saving gene therapy for children, developed by Italian scientists and GlaxoSmithKline, has been recommended for approval in Europe, boosting the pioneering technology to fix faulty genes.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Friday it had endorsed the therapy, called Strimvelis, for a tiny number of children with ADA Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (ADA-SCID) for whom no matching bone marrow donor is available.
